More Christmas!

Another beautiful Christmas postcard. I love the simplicity of these messages.
Fall is definately in the air here in the Northwest. The air is crisp and the leaves are falling.
Hope you all have a great week!

Christmas Postcard

One of the pretty Christmas postcards I got at the sale. Both sides are featured.
The weather is starting to change and I try not to look at the calendar, but my first show is only a month away and I just don't feel like I have anything ready...although I feel this way every year, and somehow it comes together and we have a wonderful display...
Have a wonderful Monday!

On the Water

I really love the look of this scene...this little group of restaurants and shops on the water. I have no idea where this is or the age of it-I just liked it.
I scored a great bunch of vintage postcards at a flea market sale last weekend and will start sharing them this week! There are Christmas, birthday, Easter and more so watch for those and hope you'll find some you can use!

Holiday Street Scene

I don't know anything about this picture. It is a lovely 8x10 street scene...the Happy Holiday sign gives it away as shoppers on a busy street looking for that perfect gift. I know it's only September (only?) but it's never too early to get started for winter crafting, so hopefully this will be of use to someone!

Miss Dorothy Drake...

...as Irish Peasant Girl. I think this is a beautiful picture.

I tried to find out who Dorothy Drake was...but there isn't a whole lot of info on her. I found she was born in 1916 and died in 1941, which made her 25 years old at her death and was a model and stage actress.

Had a pretty good weekend at the thrift stores and got a few pieces ready for fall shows. It's coming up too fast but hopefully will have lots of cool T2T items ready!

Hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend!

Classy Lady

Here is a classy lady for your next project.
I love her pose and the all-knowing smile on her face. Date on photo is 1924.
Spent the day visiting our antique mall booths. We share spaces in Stars and Splendid in Sellwood area of Portland and Camas Antiques in Camas, WA. Our other business adventure is importing English furniture and bric-a-brac. So having fun with our partner putting together inviting spaces for the customers. One of these days I'll post some pics of those too.
Til tomorrow--

Where to start...

Hello! Welcome to A Vintage Expression! I wanted to have a place to send people who ask "how can I find you or keep in touch with you about your projects".

For my first post, I wanted to share a recent find. At the July Antique show a the Portland EXPO, I made a major purchase that has since provided hours of fun.

It was late on Sunday afternoon. I was at a booth going thru several boxes of pictures looking for some new ones to add to my line of vintage inspired signs (more on that later). The owner of the booth was trying to sell me the whole box of pictures for $50...I said, thank you but it is a little steep for me. So I am looking thru his boxes for other treasures and he tells me he will make me a deal. He has 14 bankers boxes of stuff left and he would sell them to me for $1 a box. Wait...you're telling me I can have all this really cool stuff for only $14? Took me all of two minutes to weigh the consequences of passing up such an awesome deal or facing my husband as I (or he) carried in another 14 boxes of crap into the house.

I took the deal of course! I can always get another husband...haha just kidding. Plus my friend who was with me convinced him what a deal it was and how much money I was going to make.
So I am having a blast going through people's lives, and feeling very bittersweet that all this stuff fell into a stanger's hands unloved and unwanted. There are pictures, and post cards, and letters from WWII soldiers back home, and report cards, and tax returns, magazines, newspaper clipping, wedding photos...just to mention a few.

Some of it will be sold in various places, but I wanted to have a place to share some of the really cool or specials items for others to use. I love The Graphics Fairy site and how she shares her pics and graphics. And I hope to be able to make some new friends and maybe share some tips and also find new customers for my sign business.

So now on with the show. I will try my hand at my first share. And then run off to see if I can find some people to come and visit!!!

Thanks! Sue
